Why We’re Building VetTrackEDU: Bridging the Gap Between Veterinary Classrooms and Real Clinical Experience

For over 20 years working in veterinary medicine, I’ve witnessed a challenge that continues to affect students, schools, and veterinary clinics across the country.

Students eager to enter the veterinary field often struggle to gain the hands-on clinical experience they need. Clinics want to help train the next generation, but many face concerns surrounding liability, waivers, compliance, and time constraints. At the same time, schools frequently lack a centralized system to properly track student clinical hours, competencies, and workforce readiness.

These gaps create barriers that slow down the development of future veterinary professionals.

That is why we are building VetTrackEDU.

VetTrackEDU is being designed as a workforce development platform that connects veterinary classrooms, students, and clinics into one structured ecosystem. The goal is simple: create a pathway where students can gain verified real-world experience, clinics can safely and efficiently participate in training future talent, and schools can better manage and track workforce outcomes.

The vision for VetTrackEDU includes:

  • Connecting students with participating veterinary clinics
  • Tracking verified clinical hours and skill competencies
  • Streamlining compliance documentation and waiver management
  • Supporting workforce readiness for veterinary assistant students
  • Creating stronger partnerships between education and veterinary practices

This initiative was not built from theory alone. It was built from firsthand experiences inside veterinary clinics and educational programs — seeing motivated students struggle to find opportunities, seeing clinics overwhelmed with operational risks, and seeing the absence of infrastructure connecting education to workforce development.

At PetTrio Charities, we believe workforce development is critical to the future of veterinary medicine. Supporting the next generation of veterinary professionals means creating systems that give students access, structure, mentorship, and opportunity.

As we move toward the soft launch of VetTrackEDU, we are also proud to begin assembling an Advisory Board made up of leaders in veterinary medicine, education, and workforce development who share this vision for the future.

This is more than technology.

It is about building infrastructure that strengthens the veterinary workforce pipeline for years to come.

We are just getting started.
